In computer arts magazine there was a great article from the Snask team. It was called don't be boring and it told young designers like myself to get out there and make some enemies. They mentioned that they understand why young designers loose faith in future careers and I haven't even started work in the real world yet. They have given some great advice:
If you don't like your work, quit.
/If you love someone, let it show
/Generosity always pays itself back
/Always smile when you talk to an annoying person on the phone
/If you want to be a rock star, don't study graphic design
/Social skills are as important as knowing how to set type and spell
/See people as people, not as target groups
/Just because you wear a black suit, it doesn't mean your successful.
/Having enemies is good and necessary
/Work hard for your clients
/If you look too cute, smile
/Luck doesn't exist. Don't be lazy
/Learn typography its not optional
/Keep it simple, not tedious
